When you have made the decision to seek therapy, you face the puzzle of how to find the best therapist for you. I believe that the most significant consideration is the positive recommendation of others. Consider other factors that may be significant. Is the location convenient? Do you prefer a certain gender or age? Does the therapist accept you insurance? Does s/he offer a sliding fee if your benefits run out? Once you have chosen a therapist to try, expect the first session to be a bit uncomfortable. You are making a courageous step. Opening up to a stranger can be uncomfortable at first. If you are very uncomfortable personally with the therapist, try another, and another if necessary. But if you just feel somewhat awkward, give him/her another chance. The second session will feel more natural.
Congratulations
on your decision, and appreciate the journey!
